We hope you had a wonderful Christmas and have had a successful return to the second half of the school year.  The weather has certainly made that return challenging!

A flier went out today to Flagstone families announcing the return of LEGO Robotics Club for Jan/Feb.  We will be signing up young LEGO Engineers next week, Thursday, Jan 19th, right after school while launching our return to club meeting with the kids.  For all you who were in first semester robotics, your children have first priority for a spot to attend Flagstone LEGO Robotics Club.  If you have friends who are interested in the lcub for their children, be sure to send them this email and tell them to send us a note.

Because you have already filled out the paper work, to hold a spot in the LEGO Robotics Club for the next 6 week session, please respond to this email by Tuesday, Jan 17th, and plan to bring your club fee of $75 to the first meeting next Thursday, Jan 19th.  As before, checks will be made out to Robotics. how.

We will sign your child up and plan for them to attend the first session next Thursday, a dynamite kick off for the kids!

Have an awesome weekend and we look forward to hearing from you.

1-12-17 FSE Thursday Blast

1-12-17 FSE Thursday Blast
Dear FSE Families,
I hope all of you are doing well and getting a back in the the swing of your schedules after the holidays!  We are definitely back in the swing of things at FSE and loving our time with your kids! This week we were able to bring out our virtual google glasses again to go on some virtual expeditions to Mt. Everest and the North and South Pole, both places our guest adventurer that is visiting us next week trekked to.  Students are working on crafting questions to ask that are thoughtful and as experienced based as we can get!

Another upcoming event that we are working on is a Kindness Campaign that we are planning on rolling out around February.  As a staff we are finding it more important then ever to teach our students what kindness looks like inside and outside our school.  As we are planning for this campaign I ran across this wonderful article that I wanted to share with everyone, it struck a cord with me as a parent and as an educator.  My take away, kids are watching even when we don't think they are!  So important in this digital age where it is easy to hide behind a computer and cast judgement.  Be kind, and model this kindness. If you are interested in helping with this campaign please let me know!

Have a wonderful weekend,
Kelli Smith, FSE Principal

  • Book Fair Success!!--Please read from Scholastic: Your Book Fair Chair Debbie does an outstanding job keeping your kids excited and engaged in the fair. Here at Scholastic we like to measure success not by Dollars and Cents, but by Books and Reading minutes; your book fair is truly a one-of-a-kind literacy event. Based on your most recent book fair; your school community walked away with approximately 2,644 books, which equates to 475,920 independent reading minutes. These are numbers that should be celebrated and shared with your families and staff!  Shout out to everyone that supported the FSE Book Fair!

Update on Letter Sent Wednesday Morning
Thank you to all the parents that reached out to me personally in regards to their questions around the two bullets found on our campus late Tuesday afternoon.  After much investigating it has been concluded that no other bullets were seen or have been found.  Of the half dozen students that were around the area when the bullets were found only three saw them while the rest did not.  My staff and I are continuing to be vigilant and will continue to follow up on any leads should they come up.

Please continue to reach out to me at anytime for questions or concerns. My direct phone line is 303-387-5230 and my email is kelli.smith@dcsdk12.org.  I check my email regularly (up until I go to bed each evening) and any messages on my direct line go to my email.

Other ways to see what is happening at FSE are:

I would encourage all FSE families to ensure you are getting your information on official FSE or DCSD social media sites, private sites and unofficial sites many times do not have accurate information and unnecessary confusion results.  Again, I am available and make every effort to respond promptly to any requests so please do not hesitate to reach out.

School Start Time
Please remember that school starts at 9:10, students are coming to school and waiting in the cold as early as 8:40.  Our doors do not open until 8:55 so please make sure your children are getting here between the window between 8:55 to 9:10.  We do not have supervison for students prior to 8:55.  If you have a preschool child and enter the building early please do not let other students into the building as you enter. Our policy continues to be that we do not open the door and let anyone in the building, they must ring the bell and sign in at the office.  Please let the office know if you have any questions.

Upcoming Event!
I am very excited to let you know that extreme adventurer Colin O'Brady will be coming to DCSD and Flagstone on January 18th to speak to our students about setting goals, persevering and accomplishing your dreams with hard work and determination.  He set the world record by climbing all the continents highest peaks and hiking to the north and south pole in just over 100 days.  If you are interested in hearing about this impressive young man here is a link to an interview that he did with CBS Sunday Morning back in March.

Student Council Update:
The FSE Student Council will be participating in the Douglas County High School Wish Week from January 23rd-27th.  Here is a little information about what Wish Wish is:
Every year, Douglas County High School puts on an event called "Wish Week". Wish Week is a community wide fundraiser where we partner with the Make-a-Wish foundation to grant the wish of a child with a terminal illness. This year we are sponsoring a 13 year-old boy named Cory.  His wish is to go to Disney World!  Our aim as a Douglas County Feeder this year is to pass our goal of $40,000 with the help of Castle Rock businesses and DCHS feeder schools.
Student Council is currently deciding on how FSE will participate.  More details will be communicated to families soon.

Fellow 4th grade parents: Don't forget to register your child for the Every Kid in a Park program, a free pass for all of the national parks for 4th grade students and their families, valid until August 2017.
